Step-by-Step Instructions for Accessing the CITI Basic Course
To access the Basic Course, go to CITI at www.citiprogram.org. Register with Ohio State University. After registering on the CITI site, screening questions will help you select the course(s) you would like to take.
- Answer “yes” to the first question, Do you need to take a required training course (Basic or Refresher Human Research course) in human subjects protection at The Ohio State University? Click “Next Question”.
- Select a Learner Group for the Basic Course of Human Research (Biomedical or Social and Behavioral Research) Click “Next Question.”
- Confirm the course you selected and either follow the instructions to change courses or proceed to the Basic Course by choosing “Go Back to Learner’s Main Menu.”
- Click on the Human Research “Not Started-Enter” link under Status to enter the course.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Accessing the CITI Refresher Course
To access the Refresher Course, log on to CITI at www.citiprogram.org.
- To log on to the CITI site, use the username and password with which you initially set up your CITI account (CITI can email your username and password to you if you do not recall it; if you have a new email address, contact prestage.2@osu.edu).
- Click on “Add a course or update your learner groups for Ohio State University” and choose “Update Groups.”
- A list of screening questions will help you select the course(s) you would like to take. To choose the Refresher Course you must have already completed the Basic Course.
- Answer ‘yes” to the first question, Do you need to take a required training course (Basic or Refresher Human Research course) in human subjects protection at The Ohio State University? Click “Next Question”.
- On the next page, select I have already completed a CITI Basic Course in the Protection of Human Subjects at Ohio State University and need to take the Refresher Course. Click “Next Question”.
- Select a Learner Group for the Refresher Course in the Protection of Human Subjects (Biomedical or Social and Behavioral Research). Click “Next Question.”
- Confirm the course you selected and either follow the instructions to change courses or proceed to the Refresher Course by choosing “Go Back to Learner’s Main Menu.”
- Click on the Human Research “Not Started-Enter” link under Status to enter the course.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Accessing the CITI Good Clinical Practice and ICH (GCP) Course
To access the GCP Course, log on to CITI at www.citiprogram.org.
- To log on to the CITI site, use the username and password with which you initially set up your CITI account (CITI can email your username and password to you if you do not recall it; if you have a new email address, contact prestage.2@osu.edu).
- Click on “Add a course or update your learner groups for Ohio State University” and choose “Update Groups.”
- A list of screening questions will help you select the course(s) you would like to take. To choose the GCP Course you must have already completed the Basic Course.
- Answer “no” to the first question, Do you need to take a required training course (Basic or Refresher Human Research course) in human subjects protection at The Ohio State University? Click “Next Question”.
- Select the Good Clinical Practice and ICH (GCP) Course. Click “Next Question”.
- Confirm the course you selected and either follow the instructions to change courses or proceed to the GCP Course by choosing “Go Back to Learner’s Main Menu.”
- Click on the CITI Good Clinical Practice “Not Started-Enter” link under Status to enter the course.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Accessing the CITI Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS) Course
To access the HIPS Course, log on to CITI at www.citiprogram.org.
After logging on/registering at the CITI site:
- Returning Users: To log on to the CITI site, use the username and password with which you initially set up your CITI account (CITI can email your username and password to you if you do not recall it; if you have a new email address, contact prestage.2@osu.edu).
- A list of screening questions will help you select the course(s) you would like to take.
- Answer “no” to the first question, Do you need to take a required training course (Basic or Refresher Human Research course) in human subjects protection at The Ohio State University? Click “Next Question”.
- Select the Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS) Course - Information for Clinicians. Click “Next Question”.
- Confirm the course you selected and either follow the instructions to change courses or proceed to the HIPS Course by choosing “Go Back to Learner’s Main Menu.”
- Click on the CITI Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS) “Not Started-Enter” link under Status to enter the course.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Accessing the CITI International Course
To access the International Course, log off the CITI Program Site and enter the CITI International Course site at www.irbtraining.org. Follow the instructions on the International Course site to register for the course.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Accessing the CITI Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Course
To access the RCR Course, log on to CITI at www.citiprogram.org.
After logging on/registering at the CITI site:

- Select the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Course. Click “Next Question”.
- Select a Learner Group or Groups: Biomedical Research, Social and Behavioral Research, Physical Science, or Humanities. Click “Next Question”.
- Confirm the course you selected and either follow the instructions to change courses or proceed to the RCR Course by choosing “Go Back to Learner’s Main Menu.”
- Click on the Responsible Conduct of Research “Not Started-Enter” link under Status to enter the course.
