New IACUC Guideline for CO2 Euthanasia of Rodents
May 08, 2009
The IACUC has approved a new guideline: “Guideline for the CO2 Euthanasia of Rodents Including Guinea Pigs.” This guideline provides background information concerning the best way to euthanize animals, especially neonates. The main change is that a physical secondary means to confirm euthanasia is required; observation of lack of breathing is not considered acceptable. In addition, all bags must be labeled with the name and date of the person performing the euthanasia and the name of the PI.
