Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How is it determined that a protocol has chemical hazards?
A representative from the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) office reviews all newly submitted Animal Use Protocols (AUPs). The EH&S representative will list all agents mentioned in the AUP that are considered to be chemical hazards by OSHA. In the past year, OSU policy has become more stringent on what constitutes a chemical hazard. Many therapeutic agents such as isoflurane, buprenorphine, ketamine, xylazine are now considered chemical hazards. Sterilizers, such as ethanol, are also considered chemical hazards.
